Sailing from the blue port to the south, we come across one of the most evocative and unique landscapes of the island … with the old mining area (you will see the unloading docks of the old iron mines).
In a few miles you will reach Punta dei Ripalti, commonly known as Punta Calamita, so named for the magnetic anomalies due to the extensive presence of iron ores.
The coast is high and rocky, with interesting caves on the surface of the water: you can approach without fear, with calm weather, by motor, but it is not possible to give bottom except with impressive heats.
The ideal is of course a rubber dinghy, the town is very popular with divers and fishermen. The charm of this part of the coast is the human presence close to zero: except for some wreckage (even imposing) of mining equipment, there is no house. Well, if you go you will see some lonely hiker on the rocks, or more often goats.
The bays that meet at the W of the Punta dei Ripalti are very open, surrounded by gravelly and sandy beaches, and have wide bottoms, so that you can give bottom only by approaching very much (bottom of gravel and mediocre tenor pebbles).
On the other hand, I repeat, it is a deserted coast and, calmly. Pay attention to the only serious danger, a semi-submerged rock in SW of the Gemini, if there is calm you risk not seeing it. And open eyes if you decide to venture into the Gemini ground crossing, which we strongly advise against, due to the danger of collision.
The interesting beaches of this area are, the Remaiolo,
The black beach, the white beach and the Stagnone.
