The island of the sparrowhawk or island of Troy, mainly rocky and known for the presence of a sighting tower that was one of the southern outposts of the principality of Piombino.
The seabed is incredibly beautiful, with deep steps, definitely suitable for snorckeling, fishing and diving.
The place is very charming even at sunset.
We always recommend to visit it, perhaps before going south towards the Rocchette.
Dangers:
If you decide from the port of Punta Ala to go south, towards Castiglione della Pescaia, the Rocchette
on the path that takes you to the Sparrowhawk Island or Troia Island, on the left you can clearly see several emerged rocks, called I Porcellini. (see photo)
Among them the bottom is absolutely low and dangerous.
It is forbidden to go through, even if you see it done by someone.
Mooring:
Good shelter with northwest (if you find room)
You have two coves available, often quite busy with boats and bathers, be very careful and moored according to the rotations of the winds (after 12.30 often in rotation by nw)
The bottom of the sparrowhawk is absolutely rocky, with the presence of plains and unfortunately huge rocks and boulders that can create problems for your anchor. (and you risk having to leave it.)
